If you are not making an IMPACT, what’s the point in doing? This was the question Nigel Risner posed at the Annual BDIA Conference in June. How often do you communicate with people – at home or at work – and feel frustrated when nothing you asked for occurs? At this Conference Nigel, one of the UK’s leading motivational speakers and business coaches, showed delegates how to rectify the situation.

Nigel will be speaking at the Enterprise Data and Business Intelligence & Analytics Conference Europe 2017, London. He will be presenting the following keynote: How to Create Massive IMPACT be an Effective Zoo Keeper.

Risner managed to get the entire audience out of their seats and ready to change their lives for the better. Direct, funny, honest and – yes – inspiring his secret, apart from his obvious presentation skills, is that his model for success is incredibly simple. Better still, he doesn’t ask you to make enormous changes. Quite the opposite. This is a coach who promotes the value of tiny changes – manageable ‘bite-sized tweaks’ that will make it easy to fit change into your day-to-day life.
He calls it –

THE IMPACT CODE:

I = IN THE ROOM
M = MODEL FROM THE BEST
P = PASSION
A = ACTION
C = COMMUNICATION
T = TRUST

IN THE ROOM
Do you live your life in the present or past tense? If you are in the room, be in the room. If your mind is elsewhere you might as well leave now.

MODEL FROM THE BEST
Where do you set your sights and who do you follow (either consciously or sub-consciously)? It’s time to challenge your role models or dreams and ask if they are serving you well.

PURSUE YOUR PASSION, NOT YOUR PENSION
How much passion do you have for the many activities in your life? The key to success is letting passion drive everything you do.

TAKE ACTION
The only way to make your life better is to do something about it. The challenge is simple; are you going to take action or are you going to keep doing nothing?

COMMUNICATION
How to become an effective zoo keeper. (See below).

TRUST
The hardest thing to do and yet it’s actually the easiest. Without trust you are nowhere. We all need other people to make our lives successful.

Towards the end of his talk Nigel debates with delegates the importance of having confident and motivated staff. Using an analysis which humorously divides all of us into animal types the audience soon recognises themselves and others in his assessment.

“You need to know your staff, and recognise success to get the best out of them,” he says.

Calling himself “one of the monkeys” he says that they need to be rewarded virtually all the time to keep them happy.
“Lions want to be the best dentists in the worlds this month whereas elephants don’t want praise in public, but in a letter to tell them how they got it right. Finally dolphins are so modest, they’ll say success is down to the team not themselves.”
However, the key is to become an effective ZOO KEEPER and learn how to communicate with all the different animals in your zoo.
