Back in 2000, Blockbuster rejected an offer from a small company who proposed to partner with the chain and run its online operations. That small company was Netflix who, when Blockbuster ultimately closed its doors in 2013, has gone on to become the world’s leading subscription service.

This makes it onto the list of worst business decisions ever made, especially when you consider that by 2030, it is predicted that e-commerce will account for around 40% of all UK retail sales.

The evolution of customer expectations needs an agile and responsive business to meet them. MDM is the key ingredient to making relevant and profitable decisions based on clean data. Don’t let poor data management bring your business to its knees. In an ever-demanding consumer world, it’s time to know exactly what your customers want and how to give it to them – even if it’s as simple as a Brioche bun.

Sam Goss, CMO of Comma Group, is also one of it’s founding members. He shared the other member’s aspirations to bring a new direction of consulting to the data management domain. Coming from an MDM and PIM background across some top hospitality chains, he saw first hand the challenges businesses faced with their data. He, along with the other founding members, agreed that Comma was the solution.
